Overview
The AWX EQ has 4 bands:
- HF – Hi Filter
- HMF – Hi Mid Filter
- LMF – Low Mid Filter
- LF – Low Filter
The HF & LF bands can boost/reduce with sweeping frequencies.
The HMF & LMF bands can do the same but, with the added abilities of adjusting the Q width of the band. A wide Q is a more spread out attenuation while a narrow Q is more focused on the specific frequency. Allowing for more surgical crafting with the EQ.
Use Cases
Perception vs Volume
It’s easy to consider changing volume of a signal to blend in a mix. However, sometimes merely adjusting the EQ can deliver better results for better placing a sound in the mix. For instance raising the the mid range would increase its perception without boosting the bass frequencies that might otherwise be muffling the mix. Don’t let mixes become too cluttered!
Minimize Ringing
To easily locate the frequency to work with, boost the HMF-band gain, thin out the Q and sweep the frequency. If and when a ringing sound occurs at its peak, slowly reduce the gain to a desirable level.
Layered Guitars
Using different EQ settings on multiple guitars creates a more full character in the mix.
