Background
When things get complicated in the session environment it’s important to understand the order to troubleshoot. Any number of things could be going wrong and further understanding of patchbay troubleshooting will be a benefit.
The Feedback Loop
As an audio signal chain builds with more components and audio affects, it’s possible that the patchbay will re-introduce audio into itself continuously. This will cause what is called a feedback loop and most times will be undesirable. It could damage the speakers any of the hardware that overheats and most importantly your hearing. Having a feedback loop played into an artist headphone mix can be career threatening!
Conclusion
Become familiar with all the connections in your environment and you will be able to approach any scenario or troubleshooting issue that arises.
